THE MENTOR

Michelle N. Leach

Classical Pilates instructor, founder of No Excuses Pilates and Contrology Therapy, and a lifelong student of the work.

A Classical Pilates instructor
formed by the method,
and devoted to passing it on.

Michelle N. Leach has practiced Classical Pilates for more than two decades and has been teaching for almost as long. Based in Midtown Atlanta, she is the founder of No Excuses Pilates, a boutique studio offering personalized Classical Pilates instruction, and Contrology Therapy, her comprehensive teacher training program rooted in mentorship, critical thinking, and real-world teaching experience.

A native New Yorker raised in Brooklyn, Michelle earned her Bachelor of Science from Baruch College and built a successful career in real estate before following the work that had already changed her own life. What began as a personal practice became a vocation: helping people of all ages and body types become stronger, more aligned, and more at home in their bodies.

Highly respected within the Classical Pilates community, Michelle has become known as a teacher of teachers, an experienced mentor whose influence extends beyond the clients she teaches to the instructors she trains and guides. Her teaching is precise, patient, and deeply observant. Whether working with a studio client or mentoring an apprentice, Michelle’s focus remains the same: preserving the integrity of the Classical method while helping the person in front of her understand what the work can do.

Trained directly in the Classical tradition.

Michelle N. Leach’s education is rooted in the original Classical Pilates method developed by Joseph Pilates and carried forward through generations of respected teachers.

Her continuing education includes extensive study, workshops, and mentorship with leading Classical Pilates teachers, including Brooke Siler, Anthony Rabara, Kathy Ross Nash, Mariano Dolagaray, Jerome Weinberg, Cynthia Shipley, Jay Grimes, Mari Winsor, Phoebe Higgins, and many others.

Michelle believes that to teach well, one must always remain a student.

WHAT MICHELLE BELIEVES ABOUT THE WORK

The work was complete when Joe taught it.

1

The method deserves to be preserved.

Michelle's commitment is to the integrity of the Classical system as Joseph Pilates created it. Not a hybrid. Not a watered-down version. The full method, taught with precision, respect, and care.

2

Teaching well means seeing the body in front of you.

A great teacher does not simply run through a curriculum. A great teacher observes, assesses, and responds. Michelle's mentorship-based approach emphasizes intelligent teaching, critical thinking, and the presence required to guide a real person through the work.

3

The cohort is small because mentorship cannot be scaled.

Michelle keeps her training cohorts intentionally small to protect the quality of the work. For her, the program is not about filling a room. It is about offering serious apprentices individualized attention, practical experience, and the confidence to teach with clarity and integrity.

“Her intuition, cueing, and corrections are simply unmatched. I haven’t experienced anyone quite like Michelle in the Pilates world. She is truly one of a kind.”
